At a Glance
Waltz was born in the suburbs of Vienna and  Austria as early as seventeenth century. At first it was danced by the peasents in Austria and Baravia. During the middle of the eighteenth century this dance form was popular in France. And later it was accepted by the high society. Even Queen Victoria was an expart Waltz Dancer.

It was known that waltz was danced for first time in Boston – United States in 1834 by a Boston Dance teacher Lorenzo Papanti. Later Waltz was heartly accepted in the society of United States.

The two great Austrian composers - Franz Lanner and Johann Strauss gave a true colour in this dance form in 1830 with their unique music. These two composers were by far the most popular during the nineteenth century: they set the standard for the Viennese Waltz, (a very fast version of the waltz).

At first Waltz was danced in a quick tempo.Later the English redefined this dance into  slow number with  ‘Hesitation steps’.

Today this dance form is accepted in two forms – Modern Waltz or English Waltz (slow) and Viennese Waltz or Old Waltz ( quick)
