At a Glance
Rumba had come with the African Negro Slaves, imported into Cuba. This dance emphasised the body movements more than the feet. Rumba evolved in Havanna in 19th century. The name ‘Rumba’ possibly came from the term ‘Romboso Orquestra’ a dance band in 1807. There are so many disputs about the sourse of the name ‘Rumba’
Later Rumba was introdused in the U.S.A. in 1935 with a mixture the Guarach, the Son, the Cuban Bolero. It was highly popularised by George Raft in 1935 and the dance had developed a very sensual character.
