  About Dance   Dance Catagories

In the whole world different people have different culture. Every culture has it's own history.Though, I am not going to discuss about this matter. But I say that DANCE has a great part in  social life. In the beginning, dance was a ritual form in the ancient period. In the history of World Drama, Dance is the beginning part . It's regarded as the stylised form of acting. Which we say 'Classical Dance'.  Such as 'Bharat Natyam', 'Kathakali' etc.in India and 'Ballet' in France.(and some other countries).

Now there are so many ways and purposes in dancing. Every dance form reflects it's own Social,Political,Geographical and Religious aspect. Through out the World, some dance forms have become popular widely and  accepted by the people,  irrespective of class and creeds, race and religions through out the world.

In most of the countries Dance has it's classical origin. Later,it is changed into some easier and more communicative and enjoyable art form among the common people.

Ballroom and Latin - American Dance have such type of social aspect. These dance forms  were performed socially before. Later, it became Dance sport event through out the world. Now a days,  so many Dance sport championships are arranged in the whole world. But we can't ignore the social aspect of these  dance forms.

There are so many dances which we can categorize as 'Ballroom' and as 'Latin American' Dance.

Every dance is categorised as either Spot Dance or as Progressive Dance form. In Spot Dance dancers will dance in a certain area of the floor throughout the dance. On the other hand, in Progressive Dances dancers will travel continuously.

All Ballroom Dances are 'Progressive Dance' but most of the  Latin Dances are 'Spot Dances' except two Dances - 'Sumba' and 'Paso Doble'.
